All paintings with simplified or distorted forms, or with unnatural colours, were once considered abstract. Today the concept tends to mean non-objective or non-figurative art. With vintage work it's particularly tricky to keep a coherent policy.

One of the many harbour scenes painted by this talented danish artist; maybe the best ever in regard to the subject.

Three sublime abstract landscapes from the spanish province of Andalusia capturing respectively the sun setting over the mountains of Malaga, the Guadalquivir range and finally the forceful lines of a crossroads of bridges. Unfortunately of the author we know but the name, of the paintings but their titles and their dates, September and June of 1965 respectively.

Semi-abstract watercolour - British (1980's)
A modern work in watercolor on paper, signed by the artist and set in the original glazed frame. Overall size is 12.6 x 15.7"
This daring watercolor dated 1984 is a work by a certain Margaret Norton, whom we unfortunately can't place further. The running paint evidently brings stalks to mind and flowers as subject, yet the impression goes beyond the naturalistic.
A close-up view of what appears to be a flower field. Condition: excellent, frame has some normal wear.

Abstract composition - British (1990's)
Black ink and charcoal on etched vellum paper, signed by the artist and set in a contemporary glazed frame. Overall size is 17.7 x 16.5"
This superb work in sharply delineated black and gray tones seems to be a work of a certain "Pearce", judging by the pencil signature at the bottom right. It's swirling lines brings inevitably an octopus or a mammoth to mind. Probably 1990's.
A work in a profusion of grey tones with smooth and swirling forms and unsymmetrical emphasis. The image brings evident pictorial figurative connotations to either an octopus or to a mammoth. The assorted framing is contemporary, the sheet being freely attached behind the glazing with borders showing. Back with protective boarding and hanging device assuring wall detachment. Surface, texture, aspect: smooth surfacing, matte finish Painting technique: a complex etching technique has produced a basic imprint to which freehand drawing has been added. Condition: excellent
